If you're into music, you must get to know the work of Mariana Volker. The singer, who started seven years ago with the band "Unidade Imaginária", is tracing her first steps into a solo career. Her inaugural EP has been raising the interest of some musical big shots. Liminha, for example, besides being her producer, is a great admirer of her style and is not shy to say that her voice is incredible.
I met her in the halls of Fashion Rio, where we chatted for the blog. She told me that her creative process is very personal and that she likes to use her personal experiences in her lyrics, although she sometimes mix them with her friends' stories and some poetry. Mariana, who is also a pianist and plays the guitar, normally starts a song by composing the lyrics and adding the melody later on. Well, normally, since there aren't many rules in an artist's creative dynamic.
Her inspirations aren't restricted to the music business: she drinks from sources such as literature, movies, carnival and, mostly, the arts. Even so, her influences are of a very elegant eclecticism: Tom Jobim, Caetano and Gil, Novos Baianos, Chet Baker and Stan Getz. Even classical and instrumental music have their place on her list.
